I have spent my entire working career in the insurance industry. I commenced with Queensland Insurance in Wagga Wagga in late 1966 and accepted a transfer to the company's PNG operations in 1970. I spent 18 months as assistant at the Rabaul office and was then transferred to Port Moresby office in January 1972. During my time there I spent about 6 weeks running the Lae office while a new manager was engaged and sent up from Sydney. I returned to Wagga in September 1972 and commenced work back at the Wagga office. I eventually resigned from the assistant manager's role in 1982 and commenced trading as PL JM Brown Insurance Brokers. In 1987, we sold the company and formed a new company jointly with Austbrokers - Peter L Brown and Associates P/L and we still trade under the name of Peter Brown and Associates. Married June in 1973 and have four children - Scott, Alison, Samantha and Georgina . All but Alison are employed in the family business! Scott accepted the role of managing director from July 2014 and I retired from the day to day business at the end of April 2019 after 53 years in the general insurance profession but remain a director on the board and our Family Trust remains a substantial shareholder.
