Performed data analysis of non-destructive (NDE) ultrasonic (UT) wall thickness data using the CHEC-NDE and MINWALL computer programs. Selected examination locations, performed pipe minimum wall thickness, wear rate, and remaining life calculations, and provided technical engineering support to field technicians. Provided management support by advising the Program Manager in the areas of resource allocation (i.e., staffing, budgets, etc.) and upper management relations and communication. Performed computer modeling of plant piping using CHECMATE computer software developed by EPRI. Acted as the utilities’ designated engineer in reviewing all CHECMATE modeling work performed by an outside contractor. Identified a substantial number of errors made by the contractor.

Requested by the utility to set up an Equipment Qualification Maintenance Engineering Group to check the technical accuracy of the architect/engineer (A/E) supplied EQ maintenance documents. Given sole responsibility by the utility for the hiring and training of five contract engineers for this group. Provided a detailed technical review of the EQ maintenance requirements provided by the A/E and instructed the plant's operation and maintenance departments to incorporate those requirements deemed correct into plant procedures. Acted as the utilities' in-house expert responsible for advising and educating the utilities' engineering and plant management of overall EQ program concerns. Identified significant weaknesses in the A/E's overall EQ program and recommended an audit of same by the utilities' Quality Assurance department. Audit confirmed my findings and resulted in the A/E being relieved of their EQ program responsibility. The A/E's portion of the program was later transferred (per my recommendation) to the utilities' own personnel.

Developed preventative and corrective maintenance requirements for safety-related equipment. Developed procurement guidelines and wrote purchase requisitions for safety related equipment. This type of procurement work later developed into the nuclear industries' field of procurement engineering.
