About Peter Burk
I commenced my career in the tunnel and underground industry in 1972 on the HEC at Strangordan as a tunnel labourer.I continued working for HEC for over 20 years on a rising through the ranks to senior supervisor in charge. In the early 90s, I relocated to NSW and have worked on a number of projects in the role of Tunnel and Underground Superintendents. These projects included multiple types of underground construction and tunnel methodologies –ie shafts, caverns, TBM, roadheader and drill and blast tunnels. My mining experience includes work at both metal and coal mines. I have extensive experience in steel lining work, mine recovery works, as well as safetly managing work in soft and bad ground conditions. Proficiently experienced in overseeing expeditious installation of proper ground support which includes steel sets, rock bolts and shotcrete. In addition, I have experience in overseeing rebar installation and concrete placement work of tunnel inverts and arches. In summary, my work experience includes 40 years of underground and challenging geotechnical work. I am a team player with excellent supervisory skills. I actively communicate with all members of the tunnelling staff and promote a high level of team building. I hold safety in the highest regard and expect the same from the team I am leading. I am punctual, open minded and have high standards in delivery of all works I am managing.

The length of the upgrade is 16.3 km, starting at Ross Lane in Tintenbar and extending north to the existing Ewingsdale interchange, near the town of Ewingsdale. From there, the upgrade alignment will avoid the steep grades of St Helena Hill by way of a tunnel approximately 430m long and 45m below the ridge line. The tunnels consist of approximately 75m of cut and cover tunnel and 355m of tunnel mined tunnel.
