Manufacturing/Engineering Liaison POD Cable/Harnessing Design Group 2017- DEC 2020Responsible for multiple liaison tasks in different systems in an effort to get new sets of flight/test cables built from the concept meeting to prototype release and then installed in the underwing pod. This involves close interaction with two engineers, a cable designer and cable/3D router designer which comprise a five-person design group. This group works across a range of company marketing/engineering groups which are in process of moving forward with new defense concepts or specific customer design requests. For a given project I will start checking component availability, inhouse stock and also perform mating component research for well-established product types. From there I will be ordering materials through one of four channels. I have a yearly budget of $240,000 for company PCARD purchases for cabling materials which translates to $20,000 a month limit spending. I perform the month end reconcile online and submit the signature statement with project allocations. The other channels are SAP purchase orders, an inhouse action group and an inhouse email request to the Mission Systems factory. Received materials are routed through QA inspection for certs verification and green tagging as flyable components. Once I kit the materials, I submit an online Engineering Service Request and transfer the kits to the Aeronautical System cable lab to start the build process. During build I handle all the in-process redlines. The completed cables are then delivered to POD development lab for installation by the techs. As usual with any project there are status reports and charge hours to be tracked. Have occasionally stepped in for some fill in design work and 2D harness drafting or interconnect diagram.

When the Cable Design Group merged into the larger Aeronautical Systems, the Director of MPEx Mechanical Engineering asked me to transfer to his procurement group. I resumed a work path of placing PCARD and Purchase Orders in support of the larger engineering department. I was also assigned the responsibility of creating the Authorization For Expenditures for capital spending projects and the follow up progressive budget updates. This included writing the POs and creating the inhouse facilities tickets for supervision and construction of the project. The scope of my efforts was expanded (as was the group’s) to become an action team on issues assigned by the Director. A sidebar activity was learning how to get the International Trade Compliance approvals for purchasing foreign goods. Selected Achievements:Series of Promotions to Liaison Level IV.Discovered we had an underutilized SAP Business Improvement programmer therefore I enlisted his help to create a purchasing report. This gave me a tool for easy selection of query options that I could export to a spreadsheet for any project/date/vendor sort for my SAP purchasing work. This enabled much easier tracking of stalled buys or flagging special cases so that I could notify the requestor and talk with the buyers. It also proved useful when engineers asked me for all the purchase requests they had submitted.Re-designing the PDF-signature PCARD request form. The proposed design allows more data to be exported to an Excel file and then accumulated to provide an easier to search and report effort than is currently possible.

Responsible for the design, documentation, bill of materials, method manuals, proto-build, purchase order submital and cost/labour information of numerous internal harnessing and external cable sets. Handled the outside build of cables and relations with the cabling component sales people. Constructed all the EMI and Vibration test cables , as well as performed the production vibration tests at an outside lab. Finally created CAD drawings to help domestic and offshore customers understand cable hookups to our equipment resulting in cable set orders and a great deal less headaches. Performed various design projects for test jig set ups, mechanical connector panel options and the like.

Lead system assembler working closely with the manufacturing engineer to produce the mechanical, electrical and optical components of a flatbed laser gantry cutting system.
