Following the merger between Jennings Capital and Mackie Research Capital, I agreed to join Mackie to help facilitate the transition post-merger where my role is primarily as a Mining Analyst. I primarily cover base metals but also have minor coverage in gold explorers and producers in the Abitibi region of Canada.

Returned to Jennings Capital along with other former shareholders where I assumed the role of Chairman, Managing Director and Head of Research. The Board of Directors ultimately agreed to a merger with Mackie Research Capital Corp whereupon I agreed to join Mackie to help facilitate the transition post-merger.

Wrote company-specific sell-side research reports with a primary focus on base metals and was the first analyst to cover Copper Mountain Mining Corp. Was also one of the first analysts to write extensively on the iron ore space in Canada. I also covered a few gold companies active in the Abitibi region of Canada and was the first analyst to cover Trelawney.

Developed and implemented “Portfolio Risk Management” for prospect valuation using geological and economic criteria as a means of focussing exploration efforts. Managed the design, development and implementation of a collaborative system to share competitor intelligence, corporate intelligence and technical data across Falconbridge’s worldwide exploration.

Worked in the Mines Technical Services department heading a team of 2 programmers and 2 mining engineers developing and implementing computer-aided mine planning software for resource estimation, mine planning, mine design and surveying.

Taught the Underground Mine Design course to fourth year engineering students while the primary professor was on sabbatical (one semester of lectures and one semester of seminars). This work was undertaken concurrently with my full-time job at Falconbridge.

Investigated ground control-related fatalities, injuries and work refusals. Implemented a province-wide program of ground control audits for approximately 50 underground mines in the province. Provided expert testimony at inquests and other public hearings. Held numerous control-related courses for miners, students and front line supervision.

Was one of the early employees in the newly-formed Mining Technology Division, initially working in the field of CAD/CAM applications for mining engineering. Also worked on novel projects such as in-situ leaching of copper oxide ores and plasma blasting. Ultimately worked more in the field of geomechanics focussing on microseismic technology and numerical.
