About Peter Carpenter
I am a personable, extroverted IT professional. I've worked in roles supporting education, government and private business. Specifically, I've done software development, database management for 7 years now, technical support rounding close to 8, and have a slew of side skills to boot.I've been involved in building many diverse solutions, such as producing a package tracking system for a logistics company, a field trip process for a school division, multiple AP/AR processes for municipalities, multiple fire permit processes for multiple municipalities, a fully interactive risk assessment and mitigation process for a municipality (that required a ton of custom coding to make work properly), and a full student registration process for a different school division, to name just a handful.I've also been lightly involved with some full stack development of web applications in my spare time. I designed and began to implement an inventory management application for an auto wrecker, complete with an API integration to their option codes supplier. This was done largely in PHP, but I also built the integration in Python first, to see how it felt. Then re-wrote it in PHP because session variables are easier to populate. Unfortunately, the company went under due to COVID restrictions, so I couldn't finish the project.Lastly, I'm also pretty easy to get along with. Seriously, reach out and say "Hi!"
Listed skills include Sales, Document Management, Customer Service, Customer Support, and 15 others.

Technology Support
My role was to be the on-site support for any school-related technology. I had several schools that I took care of, and addressed their various needs. This would include things like diagnosing projector issues, solving software complaints, or explaining unintuitive computer behaviour. Most specialized to my skill set, I was primarily responsible for any development that was needed in their Laserfiche deployment. This included custom C# code to export, compress and split PDF documents so they would adhere to strict size limitations. I also created structured XML documents to contain the metadata of these packaged PDFs, to be exported to PASI (provincial repository for student information).Along with custom script work to automate their processes, I also created many custom SQL scripts, views and tables for various information regarding students. A notable example was when I created a view to pull current student registration data, and cross referenced it with a list of the previous operations in order to produce a delta view for registration changes. I would then use C# to cycle that view to dynamically assign security access to teachers with students enrolled in their classes, and remove access for teachers that did not. It was quite challenging to come up with a solution that achieved the goal, but was efficient enough to be run against a table with almost 100k entries, twice a day. Show less

I was the lead developer, and created custom business processes using Laserfiche ECM software. For more advanced features, I used HTML/Javascript/CSS to add additional functionality where their form designer was lacking.Another station I filled is database administration using Microsoft SQL, both for development functions and for the correct functionality of the Laserfiche Ecosystem.Being a smaller organization, I was also responsible for resolving customer support tickets with Autotask. These tickets would typically involve a combination of user training, system administration and configuration on Microsoft Server, system configuration within Laserfiche itself, or bug fixes in processes we've created. The primary duty of the role was to make sales, as well as push various metrics, but that was accomplished by having excellent customer service. Things such as being an active listener, having excellent product knowledge and speaking truthfully but kindly (being subtle about telling people the frame they chose doesn't suit their prescription or features was a surprisingly large part of the job). Brand Ambassador
This was a particularly interesting retail experience. Providing such a valuable product (both financially and emotionally) was a very fulfilling endeavor. Although meeting sales metrics was an obvious requirement, it wasn't my goal. I would have a conversation with each customer, and discover their requirements, and what they were celebrating. Using this, I could use my vast product knowledge to recommend pieces within budget, but also perfectly fitted for the occasion.
Document Solutions Specialist
I was tasked with knowing the Document Solutions software offerings inside and out. After the layout had been approved, I worked on setting up basic databases for metadata or folder structures to house the documents. After the technical installation was complete, I then trained the clients on how to use the software, and how to administrate it. Should they have required assistance later, I was available, at a price, to configure more advanced features. This would include large workflows, or predefined searches with very precise filters.Besides the Document Management aspect, I also provide IT support. In house, I manage our mail, web and SQL servers, as well as our document management vaults / repositories. Out of house, I provide basic networking and driver installation services. As a tertiary function of my employment, I also repaired Toshiba and Samsung copiers. I was tasked with clearing jams, troubleshooting odd failures and ensuring high copy quality. From time to time, I also trained end users on proper operating of their copier, both on introductory and remedial levels (such as in the case of user error related failures). Show less

During my time there I learned a lot about basic photography, and what the uses were for hundreds of different lenses, and dozens of different DSLR camera bodies. I also had to know about dozens of different point-and-shoot models, and their strengths. Show less
