Lead Liquid Fuels Modeler
• Served as primary modeler for the Liquid Fuels Markets Module (LFMM), a key component of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) used to produce the Annual Energy Outlook. Led efforts to perform regular data updates, increase accuracy of model, and ensure that model accurately emulates industry conditions.• Served as project lead for the development of the World Hydrocarbon Activity Module (WHAM), a novel optimization model to provide projections of global oil and gas production and refining activity for the International Energy Outlook. Led a team of three colleagues through the 18 month project, including model planning, development, and testing. Produced supporting documents and updates to management, including a project proposal, requirements document, and component design report.• Planned and led a training course for staff, providing support for a transition to a new file management system. Provided introduction and training to staff over multiple sessions in a four month period.• Implemented numerous incremental improvements to the LFMM. Modifications were based on changes in the domestic refining industry, as well as increasing capability of data visualization tools. As a result of the improvements, the LFMM more accurately reflects the actual state of the domestic refining industry.• Served as a member of the World Oil Price path determination group for the Annual Energy Outlook 2023. Provided valuable insight to group discussions that help shape a key input to domestic projections.
Refinery Economics Engineer Ii
• Produced a rolling three-month plan for the refinery on a monthly basis. Plan served as the basis for operational decisions and accounted for market conditions, scheduled downtimes, and plant capabilities.• Conducted modeling studies of proposed capital projects to determine economic returns, including a $500k project to improve liquid yield.• Served as Site Coordinator for the 2016 Solomon Fuels Study, a worldwide measure of site performance in the industry. Coordinated data gathering efforts from all aspects of the business and prepared the deliverable report.• Implemented numerous incremental improvements to the refinery planning model. Modifications were based on comparison to actual performance data and the use of various statistical techniques such as multi-variable linear regression. As a result of the improvements, the planning model more accurately reflects the actual operating conditions of the refinery.• Analyzed data to drive recommendations for economic improvement of refinery processes, including the recovery of over one-third of one of the largest lost opportunity line items.
Process Engineer I
• Evaluated daily unit performance and made recommendations for process optimization. Provided engineering support for four different process units, including crude/vacuum, Merox jet, and ROSE units. • Designed and proposed capital projects to contribute to an improvement in unit performance and reliability by 0.6%, a substantial improvement for a previously optimized process.• Compiled process performance data on a monthly basis. Prepared a written report summarizing relevant engineering data and identifying optimization opportunities.
Graduate Student In The Fortner Environmental Engineering Lab
• Led and managed interdisciplinary teams to conduct research in environmental and aquatic chemistry.• Synthesized findings and future work into comprehensive documents and presentations.
Graduate Researcher In The Computational Activated Materials Laboratory
• Performed molecular simulations using Linux-based software• Managed and interpreted large data sets to extract key information
Undergraduate Research Assistant In The Tang Laboratory
• Utilized R to perform multi-variable statistical analyses• Analyzed and modeled product yield as a function of experimental conditions
