My responsibilities on this project included interfacing with overseas joint venture partners, communicating management information to team members, scheduling design work, reporting team issues to management, subcontractor document review and facilitating design and safety review sessions. In addition I provide technical input to the fire and piping systems designs and workshop and warehouse layouts and designs.
Hope Downs 4 Project - Perth Office
My responsibilities on this project evolved over the time I was involved, changing from design to project engineer in late 2010. I was initially responsible for developing equipment costs for the project estimate, by liaising with vendors and working with the project estimators and area managers. During the detailed design phase I was responsible for the preparation of mechanical specifications, datasheets and scopes of work for equipment purchasing. When construction began, I was responsible for answering technical queries from shop detail drafters and fabrication contractors, as well as being the project engineer for several mechanical equipment packages. As a project engineer I was responsible for approving contractor documents including; construction drawings, inspection and test plans, data reports and as-built documentation. This role also required me to witness and approve factory testing, fabrication progress and procedures and trial fitting of equipment.
In the initial project stages I worked on major equipment selection, cost estimates and options analysis to prepare the scope of the project for progression into the next stage. During the Detailed Engineering Study, I worked in the project controls group, preparing cost breakdowns and forecasts, as well as weekly and monthly reports of progress and budget status for the client. During the detailed design stage of the project, I worked in the mechanical engineering department producing conveyor and belt feeder design calculations as well as preparing equipment documentation. In addition to these roles I acted as the health and safety representative for this project. In the construction phase of the project I worked as a project engineer, dealing with suppliers to manage cost and scheduling of equipment supply and installation. I then managed the detail drafting contractor to ensure prompt supply of fabrication information to the steel fabricators for the project.
