I have been working in the restaurant and hospitality industry for over a decade. It's been very formative. I have deeply appreciated working with people from all over the world. Immersing yourself with people from different cultures is refreshing. As a captain waiter I have led teams in five star service. It is a very detail-oriented position. Our restaurant has achieved Forbes Travel Guide's Five Star Award consecutively since 2015. It is one of the highest honors a restaurant can get in North America. The career has taught me how to handle stress very effectively.Working with German, lots of French, Mexican, Chinese, South African, Zimbabwean, Indonesian, Swiss, Canadian, and others has taught me how to reach people on a basic level. It's important to know when to teach, when to correct, and when to encourage. Training and managing people is an overlooked art. It is very important to let people feel accomplished in their tasks. In a high pressure environment, it is easy to stifle people's initiative. As a captain waiter, I encourage initiative. Even if staff are making mistakes, they approach problems with a clear mind. It is important not to project yourself onto them. My great loves in life is staying active! I love running and I try to get out and hike as often as possible. The woods is my escape. I hike all year long and all the time. Hospitality has been a very interesting career. I decided to go back to school because of my love of the financial markets. Every week, I love reading The Economist. It has a great way of reporting the news because it is published on a weekly basis. It provides a much calmer understanding. News headlines that are updated every three minutes can be stressful. I prefer to remain objective about what's going on. I hope to develop a career in financial markets. I want to find opportunities that immerse me in the details of global trade.
