In my youth, the stock pages in the Wall Street Journal fascinated me. My dad would scrutinize the matrix of numbers in tiny font so I was convinced he knew a secret language. My determination to crack this “secret code” led me to studies in economics and psychology. By blending these disciplines, I knew I was on my way to decoding the markets. Economics assumes that everyone is rational and tries to explain behavior from there, whereas psychology assumes the opposite, that everyone is irrational, and tries to explain why. This unique perspective transformed me into a passionate student of the markets and voracious consumer of news and research. It’s a differentiator that offers clients a holistic view of the economy and the investment profession. I launched my career at Payden & Rygel as a Credit Trader/Portfolio Analyst and then moved to Pacific Investment Management Co. to become a Credit Trading Associate. At Barclays Global Investors (BlackRock), I became a Portfolio Manager and then moved to Pugh Capital Management, LLC as a Senior Portfolio Manager before joining SLC Management (SLC).In my role at SLC as Senior Managing Director, Head of Insurance Portfolio Management and Trading, I lead a 20-person trading team in the Redmond office located in Washington State. My mandate is to represent the business to stakeholders, lead the investment strategy for third party insurance client portfolios and support growth and retention. This quote from Bill Campbell exemplifies my leadership style: “Your title makes you a manager, your people make you a leader.” SLC’s vision is to help all employees reach their full potential. I support our vision by inspiring my employees to love what they do and the people they work with. Our team works hard, gets to know one another, has fun and tries not to take things too seriously. I am looking for progress from my team, not perfection. Work should enhance our lives, not define it.
