I led a team of 50-75 professionals ($400MM -$1B annual budget) responsible for US Onshore exploration activities. Annual drilling program of 25-50+ wells devoted to new play exploration & appraisal.  Delivered ~3bboe of new resources to US business unit in Delaware Basin, Niobrara, and other unconventional plays.

I was the "Chief of Staff" assisting the SVP of Exploration in coordination and oversight of the global exploration program (>$2 billion annual budget) in both conventional and unconventional plays. Managed internal and external reporting, budgeting and planning, portfolio & financial analysis, benchmarking, negotiations, and technical reviews.

I directed a team of ~70 staff comprising the internal seismic data processing group, geophysical R&D group, geophysical operations group, computing & software development group, and the contracts & licenses group.  I supervised the corporate R&D effort in geophysics as well as proprietary data acquisition activities including the development of the ZenSeis acquisition technique The team received two ConocoPhillips SPIRIT awards in recognition of exceptional results achieved.

I led a 40 person team ($100-140MM budget) with overall exploration responsibilities in the GOM.  Successfully integrated staff, processes, and knowledge from both heritage companies, delivered necessary cost reductions, and continued safe operation of the contracted drillship (Pathfinder).  Attracted leveraged partners (~$40MM in leverage) to the exploration program and strengthened the drill ready inventory of prospects.  Leased and drilled the GC199 “Lorien” discovery.  Post-merger, led a strategic review of ConocoPhillips’ GOM business and exploration strategies and obtained approval for recommended changes in strategy/tactics.  Launched significant portfolio rebuilding effort including entry into ‘deep’ shelf and Paleogene plays. Won 67 blocks at 2003-2005 lease sales with overall success rate of 84%.

I was hired to help lead turnaround of Phillips’ exploration program. Supervised 20+ person team with annual budget $35-50mm. Recruited outside hires to build overall team capabilities and shifted focus from ‘churning’ existing high risk portfolio to recognition and capture of lower risk/higher value opportunities.

I initiated, analyzed , negotiated, and closed A&D transactions. I participated in the acquisition of the King-Kong (GC 472) and Allegheny (GC 254) undeveloped discoveries, purchase of a one-sixth interest in the Discovery Gas Pipeline system, sale of GI 115 platform and pipelines, sale of ST187 and EW966 properties, and numerous exploration prospect farm-ins and farm-outs.
