I have been in education since 1977 when I started as a teacher at Augusta Park High School, Port Augusta, SA. The following year I moved to teach History and English at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide. I stayed for 12 years and for the last two was Head of History. During 1987 I taught at The Felsted School, in Essex, England. I moved to Ballarat and Clarendon College as Deputy Principal in 1990 and in 1993 was appointed Headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, Kew, in Melbourne. In 1999 I was appointed Headmaster of Knox Grammar School in Sydney. In 2004 I became the Managing Director of Creative School Managment, a consulting and publishing firm advancing Board and senior staff agendas in schools. In 2006 I became the Principal of St Hilda's School, Gold Coast. I retired in 2016. On retirement I was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of the University by Griffith University. In late 2019 I was the interim Principal of The Glennie School, Toowoomba for 12 months. In 2021 I was the Interim Principal of Arden Anglican School for 6 months. In 2023 I joined the Council of Newington College, Sydney.
