Throughout my career I have been working across complex challenges in the construction sector and its supply chain. The sector is a passion of mine and I have enjoyed working in Government, for clients and working with industry stakeholders. I have been heavily involved in industry membership organisations advocating excellence and industry improvement and also enjoy the challenge of representing our sector to Government.My governance experience has predominantly been across construction industry membership organisations in both the UK and New Zealand. My style is to work collaboratively in governance roles but to challenge where appropriate. I will use my experience to make decisions in a timely and considered manner and will seek detail and take time in areas I have limited experience in. I will also focus on long term strategic direction as well as continued delivery of value to members and providing advocacy to key stakeholders including Government.In my executive roles, I have provided strategic commercial and procurement advice working with clients to work collaboratively with their supply chains in securing maximised outcomes and value for money. This has primarily been in the construction sector and also includes the integrated waste services and regulatory sectors.My approach is to focus on outcomes, to challenge the status quo, and to focus on longer term benefits as well as short term wins. Whilst engaging clients, supply chains and other key stakeholders to work collaboratively towards a shared objective and goal, with a defined timeline and reportable deliverables.I have worked on major infrastructure programmes for government departments and local government organisations, that includes the Ministry of Education and Auckland Council.I have also worked on significant recovery programmes – first, in Christchurch following the devastating 2011 earthquakes and more recently supporting the regions affected by the severe weather events of 2023, including supporting the Natural & Built Environment programme within the Auckland Recovery Office.Key skills and experience include:• Leadership, challenging, solutions focused, long term value creation• 25 years working in the construction industry, of which I spent 23 years working across government and within membership organisations in the construction sector• 12 years board/governance experience
