In this capacity, I developed and implemented realistic corrective measures and improvement strategies to safeguard equine welfare.One of my significant achievements was formulating a far-reaching Retirement Programme, poised to become the most extensive global aftercare initiative. Additionally, I conducted both announced and unannounced welfare audits and compliance inspections for racehorses and retired racehorses in Hong Kong, as well as for retired horses across China and New Zealand. As part of these efforts, I implemented necessary action plans and corrective measures as required.✪ My key highlights in this role included ✪➤ Development of Equine Welfare Plan: Created the HKJC Equine Welfare Plan to identify critical improvement areas and propose viable solutions for enhancing horse health and welfare. ➤ Committee Establishment and Management: Established and managed the 'HKJC Fire Safety and Evacuation' and 'Gear and Equipment Inspection and Approval' committees, ensuring adherence to critical safety protocols and compliance with equipment standards.➤ Leadership in Project Management: Successfully led the 'Equine Welfare and the Built Environment' project, providing strategic advice to the HKJC on future stabling and facility constructions, enhancing equine welfare standards.➤ Collaboration on Research: Partnered with Adjunct Associate Professor Ben Sykes from the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland on the 'HKJC Gut Health Research' project and Siobhan Mullan, Professor of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Ethics, and Rachel Annan from UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, Ireland, on the research project ‘More than a sum of its parts: a global approach to developing racehorse welfare assessments’.
