The Sustainability Waste Alliance (SWA) was established by the Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery (OMTID) and key stakeholders to identify additional specific opportunities for using recycled and replacement materials in upcoming major infrastructure projects across the state commencing with the Bunbury Outer Ring Road (BORR). The SWA works across sectors and industries to achieve more than would otherwise be achieved in isolation. The SWA Innovation Hub’s purpose is to identify innovative practices to maximise opportunities for resource management, resource recovery and recycling that will lead to better, value-for-money outcomes in road and rail projects in Western Australia. The capacity of the SWA Innovation Hub to fast-track development of the broader waste market is seen as the most prospective means of harnessing ongoing waste diversion and reprocessing outcomes for the transport and infrastructure sectors.

Innovate Australia was established to encourage, assist and proactively promote Australian innovation. The organisation works with industry to bring about and encourage innovation, and to develop programs and innovation networks. It is a not for profit, independent facilitator with a growing national footprint. My role is to provide leadership, governance and strategic direction and to work with the other Directors of the Board and the Executive team to give life to the strategic plan.

The Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AfPA) is the peak body representing all of the flexible pavement industry in Australia. It was formed in 1969 to promote the economic use of asphalt and bitumen bound products based on sound technical and commercial grounds so as to promote the sustainable use of smart roads that are smooth, safe and well maintained.

In the role of Chief Operating Officer at ARRB, the nation's government owned road research institute, I managed a staff of 150+ located nationally and a turnover of ~$50M. Amongst other things, I was responsible for establishing and then growing major programs of activity including:• Transport Infrastructure Product Evaluation Scheme (TIPES)• Western Australian Road Research and Innovation Program (WARRIP)• National Asset Centre of Excellence (NACOE)• Austroads National Strategic Technical Research Program• National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP)

As the General Manager, Research and Consulting, I was responsible for delivering all of the Australian and international research and advisory services of the company. My specialities were wide ranging and included driverless vehicles, emerging technologies, intelligent systems, road and bridge asset management, strategic urban and regional transport planning, civil and traffic engineering, traffic management for local areas, road safety, etc.I was also responsible for leading an annual program of upwards of more than 1,500 customer facing revenue generating projects and 100 industry events including technical workshops, seminars, summits, specialist conferences and webinars conducted in all states of the Australia as well as several international locations.

I was responsible for all of the national and international consulting activities of the organisation including the management of all regional offices in Australia and overseas. Also responsible for managing the operation of the organisations' data collection and laboratory operations including its fleet of network survey vehicles. I led the acquisition of specialist companies RoadUser International and Robert Luxmoore Parking and the oversight and profitable sale of company subsidiaries including ARRB RoadInfo NZ. The Australia and New Zealand Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI) was the national peak body formed to accelerate the safe and successful introduction of driverless vehicles onto our roads. It was a partnership of over 100 organisations from industry, government and academia working together collaboratively towards a common goal. I was the main architect of this organisation - that included being instrumental in its establishment, in securing multi-year multimillion dollar funding for it, in setting its vision and strategic direction, and in Chairing the Board, consisting of all core partners.

I was the manager of a planning, design and project management team advising to government and industry on transport sector projects.
