Peter Daut is a five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, who has anchored and reported in some of the nation's largest markets. He received a 2023 Edward R. Murrow Award for his investigative story on arsenic in the drinking water of migrant communities. He received the 2022 California Golden Quill Award for outstanding education reporting. He currently solo anchors the 4 and 6:30 p.m. newscasts on KESQ-TV, which include nightly, in-depth interviews with a variety of newsmakers on the big stories of the day. In 2020, he received an Emmy Award for "Best Evening Newscast."During his tenure at KCBS/KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, Daut served as the lead reporter on several major stories, including the Pulse nightclub shooting-massacre in Orlando, FL. He traveled to New York City to cover the 2016 presidential election; Denver, CO to investigate the legalization of recreational marijuana; and Carson City, Nevada for the parole hearing of O.J. Simpson. He anchored live coverage of the devastating Woolsey fire in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties; the deadly Trader Joe's standoff; and the mass shooting in Thousand Oaks. In 2016, he won an Emmy Award for a compilation of his work in the Individual Achievement category.He also appeared as a guest host on the nationally-syndicated show "The Talk."Earlier in his career, Daut was a morning anchor and investigative reporter at WSOC-TV in Charlotte. While in the Queen City, he uncovered and reported on a number of issues affecting taxpayers and consumers and anchored from inside the 2012 Democratic National Convention. In addition, he received the national Journalistic Achievement Award from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery for his investigative reports on a cosmetic-surgery clinic.Daut also worked at KDFW-TV in Dallas, where he won an Emmy for his report on the shooting massacre at Fort Hood. While in Dallas, he covered, among other things, the Super Bowl, tornadoes, and wildfires.He began his on-air career at KFOX-TV in El Paso, where he received several awards for his reporting on public corruption.Daut graduated Cum Laude from the University of Southern California, where he received dual degrees in broadcast journalism and political science. He also minored in Spanish, and was recognized by the university as a Renaissance Scholar.
