I have over 20 years experience as a consultant general surgeon specialising in oesophago- gastric cancer surgery with one of the highest volumes in the UK. I am experienced in all aspects of emergency general surgery and work in a level 1 regional trauma center.I have over 10 years experience in leadership positions in the NHS including Audit and Governance lead, Clinical Director for General and Vascular Surgery, Assistant Medical Director of NHS foundation trust, and Chair of the regional upper gastrointestinal cancer board. I led the quality assurance for general surgical training in the UK from 2018 to 2022.I have carried out a number of clinical governance reviews nationally across Great Britain and Ireland for the National Clinical Assessment Service and Royal College of Surgeons invited reviews.I have represented the North East region both as regional director of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and as council member for Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.I am a highly recognised surgical trainer and am vice chair of the Specialty Advisory Committee for General Surgery in the UK.I am a humanitarian surgeon dedicated to training surgeons globally in conflict and resource poor regions of the world.
