I have been relocated to our Rail department because the were in need of a senior engineer.This position is not at a projectlocation but at a production facility. I have mainly designed Hardware solutions of components wich are made here on behalf of Pro Rail.Pro Rail components have to meet strickt requirements so it is often a search to replace obsolete components or to design a different solution wich can forfill the same task.In this position my knowledge of good Chinese suppliers came in very handy.

Project Rotterdamse Baan is a tunnel near The Hague called the "Victorie Boogie Woogie" tunnel.The role for me was to finish the design papers in the Energy group. Therefore I have updated the Energy Balance: checking the energy intake of all the sub-installations. Also needed to verify the No Break capacity if is meets the requirments, i did this in cooperation witch the supplier of the nobreak installation.I have also recalculated the cable thickness with Intellec NEN1010 software.

This project was part of a big renovation of the watermagement of the IJssel near Kampen. My role here was to design a number of sub installations at the Lockcomplex near Kampen.I took charge of the outsite lighting installation (Signify), shipping signaling and walkway barriers. Also in this project coopoeration with the client (RWS) is at the utmost importance. To make this cooperation fluenty we had a weekly discussion of the design in progress. So we can quickly rule out the differences in opinion when designing. To monitor our progress and to cut our workload in small peices we use the Agile Scrum methode. I find it a great and very helpfull tool to work with.Towards the end of this project I have also designed a temporary installation to manage the shipment traffic. Only ships from one direction at the time could pass. This was locally controlled by shipment signs wich were also locally operated. Als the waterflow rates were monitord. If the rate is to high the signs will show a red signal.

Saa One is a very large project, 20km, witch contains A6, A1 and A9 between Almere and Gaasperdam.When I started here this project was already a few years in progress. My task here was taking charge and carry out the testprocedures needed to finish this project according demands. I managed a small team of three persons to make this happen. Because of the size of this project it took a lot of paperwork! Among other installations the most intersting ones were OV (public lighting) wich was connected to an automatic system wich controls the lights and also read out the conditions of the light per lamp (Luminext system). And ofcourse the WKS (roadsite system) wich monitors traffic and communicates with the Traffic Control Centre. The "Wisselbaan" is like a project within a project. It is a seprate road witch can change direction according to the morning a evening rushhour. Monitoring and control happens at the Traffic Control Cetre,the entire road with two lanes is monitored by CCTV camera's. I have configured all the camera's (about 120) at the traffic controlcentre so they can meet the requirements. They were vere strict, every meter of asphalt has to be in view of at least one camera. When a car is out of view of one camera the next one must been already in view of the next camera. It took me many weekends and overnights to get the overlap right!But I got me the opportunity to work together with the people of the traffic Control Centre witch was a very nice experience!- Saa One highway A1-A9-A6: Test and commisioning- Rotterdamse Baan

At this project at Nijverdal (Salland Tunnel) I started at a position as Commisioning Coordinator. I managed a group of 3 people who did the comissioning of the sub-installations in the tunnel.Also I managed the subcontractors who had to commission the sub-installation themselves.For example Heijmans for CCTV/Audio and . After commissioning I have taken part of testing of the installations, escpecially CCTV. Especially the control of the camera's at the controldesk and the image layout was a challange to get it working proparly.I was one of the last people leaving this nice project, I have helped the people at the traffic controldesk to cope with managing and controlling this tunnel in different situations and events.It was a very rewarding experience!After this I also worked for the A4 Ketheltunnel for three months, I did the testing of the subinstallations outside of the tunnel, like CCTV, Fire- and burglary systems and also the Remote IO.

For the renovation of highway A27/A28 I have filled in the roll of Project Coordinator.For this function I have learned the skill "Systems Engineering" for the Verifiying and Validation proces of the contract demands.Troughout the project I had the task to made the Validation Reports to show the contractor that we have fulfilled their demands.

I was working on locaction in China, Shenzen for a Dutch company to outplace manufacturing in China.On most products we had apply reversed engineering to make them suitable for production.Products like traffic lights, road site cabinets and ledscreens for traffic guidence were made there.I was in charge for QC, commisioning and leading the Hardware engineers. Also I acted as the mediator between Home office Netherlands and China office for product demands.I have learned that for this kind of work next to technical skills also communication skills are important here.

During the rollout of the Chipcard as replacement of the strippenkaart I was taking care of the supply and demand of the Hardware materials wich had to built in about 3000 Busses. All was arranged as a productionline, alsmost every bus needed a different HW configuration. This made it challenging to get the correct materials ready on scedule. The lesson wich I learned here is not only rely on the given information of the client but also collect info from the people at the workplace who do the installation.

Work preperation planner (Werkvoorbereider)For the Infra projects my task was to provide the working teams with the right materials and equipment on the right moment. Including hiring subcontractors for specific tasks.In this role I was an import link between projectmanagement and the people outside performing the actual work.

Engineering ONG and SDH equipment used in large area optical networks used by mobile phone companies.This equipment had to fit in serveral, mostly small, locations so it was nessesary to check those on-site with site-surveys.Therefore I went to a lot of locations all over the world, like Scandinavia (Telia) and Aruba (Setar). Also more nearby in France, Belgium and Germany.This task was very independent, most problems you had to sort out for yourself on location. So I learned to be independent and self supporting.
