Spotted Media is the authority in celebrity data analytics and its wholly-owned subsidiary, SpottedRisk, provides cutting-edge insurance offerings as a Managing General Agent and Lloyd’s of London Coverholder. As the lead data scientist, I helped transition the Spotted data science team from a celebrity analytics company to an MGA described by Insurance Journal and The Insurer as “a new type of specialty MGA” and “an MGA that uses new and advanced assessment methods.”• Developed the first COVID Insurance product for the Entertainment Industry, and the only remaining insurance facility for such coverage. Proprietary models were developed by my team which forecast risk for Cast and Crew illness / Civil Authority shutdown for productions and public events around the world. Our models were approved by six A-rated insurance companies who delegated underwriting authority to SpottedRisk. My team also automated roughly 90% of the underwriting, thereby eliminating the need for expensive underwriters. My team’s work enabled SpottedRisk to successfully insure more than 30 feature films and TV shows over the course of the pandemic, amounting to over $100M in aggregated risk. The product has generated profits to Spotted’s supporting insurance markets that were nearly twice that of the program’s profitability benchmarks.• Created the first and only stand-alone Disgrace Insurance product for the Film & TV industry, a product which protects Film & TV studios in case they incur a loss due to a star in a production being involved in a scandal (i.e., recasting, editing, delay, or abandonment). To replace the complicated, slow, and subjective process of determining monetary loss, we created a proprietary, objective, parametric trigger for claims called the Spotted Public Outcry Index™. The Index received widespread press coverage including CNN, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and several other publications. $7M was raised in series B funding during the development of the product.
