In my position at MetOcean Solutions I focused mainly on bathymetry development and analysis for numerical models (SCHISM, SWAN, Delft3D, etc.) using GIS and remote sensing techniques. I was also involved in the processing and analysis of various types of oceanographic data.

As a temporary lecturer, I prepared and carried out a number of lectures for the second year paper ‘Earth Resources and Materials’. The lectures were mainly focused on processes associated with sedimentary rock formation, sediment transport and sedimentary resources.

During this appointment I advised Water Boards carrying out local flood risk assessments, mainly focusing on small to medium-sized rivers and canals.

During this appointment I managed flood risk assessment projects for Dutch river systems. Activities that I carried out within the projects include planning of field surveys, field data analysis, river levee strength examination, calculations and design, and drafting of project reports.In 2013 I was included as a geotechnical consultant in a coastal reinforcement project, involving beach widening and dune strengthening along a stretch of the Dutch coastline.

During this research appointment I managed the acquisition and analysis of coastal erosion data of the North Devon (UK) coastline. The aim of the research was to determine present coastal erosion rates in the area to predict possible future erosion patterns using a numerical model (Delft3D).

Within this research I examined the mobility of intertidal sandbars at Tairua Beach (Coromandel, New Zealand) in collaboration with a fellow Dutch student, using video imagery and field measurements. The available data, spanning a number of years, was processed and analysed in detail to obtain sandbar movement patterns. Consequently, we created a numerical model to simulate the observed sandbar migration.The main results of this research were published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal (Marine Geology).
