3North is a growing multi-discipline architectural firm. As member of the senior management team, I am responsible for all finance functions of the company including monthly financials, budgeting, cash management, revenue projections and project profitability. IT strategy and management also fall under my control. We use Ajera software to track time and consultant spend on design projects.

Managed accounting and IT functions of the company and up to 6 staff. Responsible for financial and compliance reporting to investors and to bank, annual audit of company financials and 401k plan. Forecasted monthly sales and expenses on a weekly basis with a focus on controlling major cost categories. Reported these results to management team and investors and published to a company scoreboard.Created budgeting model based on production hours of each machine. Calculated the hourly value-add rate of each machine and set goals for machine efficiency. Measured sale’s ability to meet value-add rate and production’s ability to run the machine at its efficiency goal.Developed financial models to measure “what if” scenarios involving bank covenants, cash flow, EBITDA and capital expenses for reporting to bank and to investors. Prepared forecasts of the same to the board of directors.Analyzed sales and profitability by product line of acquisition target looking for overlapping customers and opportunities to sell complementary services.Merged three companies into a single company after acquisition by Boathouse Capital. Acquired a fourth company 15 months later. Worked with third party administrator to establish new 401k plan. Managed the rollover of the old plan’s participants to the new plan. Successfully managed the old plan through DOL’s Voluntary Correction Program (VCP) after discovering errors in the setup of the old plan.

Worked with owners to sell companies to private equity investor group. Prepared company snapshots, financial reports and 5 year budgets to market the companies to multiple private investors in an effort to raise funds for a management buyout. At the same time, provided financial reports to private equity investor during 18 month negotiation with sellers. Managed the due diligence for the sale of three companies and for the purchase of another company. Managed accounting and IT functions of the company and up to 6 staff. Developed and managed a profitability model in Microsoft Access that used client’s customer and product data. Modified the model for variations in client’s business. Analyzed different views of the data to measure customer profitability, product profitability and made recommendations to client on how to improve overall profitability. Provided written analysis to the client.Created an in-depth financial model in Excel that produced a 36 month business plan for client’s franchisors to use to obtain financing. Included sales goals based on units sold, cash flow forecast, staffing, equipment financing and capital budget. Trained prospective franchisors on the use of the financial model and identified key financial factors for managing their business.Planned and executed projects to assist clients with selecting accounting software for their organizations. Developed software requirements list from observations and interviews with staff. Researched, evaluated and graded software products and presented findings to clients. Managed the client’s decision process to achieve deadlines.Planned and executed recruiting projects for clients requiring unique staffing needs. Advertised openings, solicited resumes from candidates, conducted interviews and prepared evaluations and recommendations for client review.Conducted reviews of client’s accounting operations. Prospected, sold, planned and implemented Great Plains accounting software installations. Evaluated customer needs and researched third party products to solve customer accounting problems. Provided onsite and phone support to a customer base located throughout Virginia.

Controller for a computer reseller during a high growth period. Company included four related companies with 6 locations throughout Virginia. Sales grew from $5 million to over $100 million during tenure. Supervised a staff of four accounting clerks spread over three locations to process accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. Managed cash flow of the companies using four lines of credit plus financing from flooring companies. Implemented a Section 125 and 401(k) plan and filed required reports. Produced weekly and monthly financial reporting. Established accounting policies and reports for new division involving contracted employees. Required interpreting employment contracts to properly record employee revenue and expenses.Worked with a sister company that provided equipment leasing to small business owners. Reviewed unique leasing opportunities with the salesperson for credit approval. Filed personal property returns and business licenses as needed in multiple localities.

Supervised three accounting staff to process payroll and accounts payable. Generated weekly capital calculations in compliance with NYSE regulations, monthly financial reports, and periodic reporting to other regulatory agencies. Managed the audits from regulatory agencies and annual audit from Price Waterhouse.
