With network charges and electricity prices spiralling ever upwards the prudent business owner, manager, financial controller or accountant must actively pursue and embrace contemporary and emerging technologies to reduce their overheads.EMU offers a suite of energy saving methods customised to individual needs and offer personal consulting and assessment prior to suggesting which options may be suitable to the particular application. The www.emupl.com.au website (still under construction) describes in more detail what the company does.My role, being from an electrical industry background and with experience in business development, is to help grow the company gradually with a sound ethical basis. Energy efficiency in lighting is my passion - most of my lighting experience has been in the commercial, industrial and sports field areas. The most prominent project would be the many floodlights on the chimney stacks at Torrens Island Power Station. Design credit for this project belongs to the lighting engineer Mr Dick McKenzie from the Australian based division (Eye Lighting Australia) of EYE Iwasaki of Japan, the manufacturer and supplier of the 2kW Metal Halide fixtures used.Another project of note is the tennis courts at Prospect Tennis Club which won an award from the Illumination Engineering Society SA for the quality of the installation and choice of low glare Spectra Tennis Ace fixtures which minimised spill lighting into neighbouring residences.Another project was the provision of temporary lighting at the Adelaide Oval immediately after the failure of the collapsible tower lighting.
