With more than 50 years experience of synthetic turf cricket pitches and 35 years as a club cricketer my expertise of pitches and experience in a club environment is second to none.It all started when my father was charged with finding a replacement for the under managed cricket squares at secondary schools in Notttinghamshire. Being a keen cricketer and groundsman the options available at the time simply didn't provide a pitch suitable for playing matches on. As the very age group that needed to be satisfied I became the crash test dummy trying out different options of base and surface.In 1976 I took part in the first match to be played on a hard porous area with a carpet at Carlton Forum Sports centre, and the first match played on "the Nottinghamshire pitch" when the County Council Cricket team took on the Dutch national team.During my time at University I continued to help my father with his developments and helped out on a number of installations for Sports Surfaces International. As problems occurred with initial designs I helped and advised on solutions and when Club Surfaces took on the councils new "Envelope" system patent I joined their construction wing installing cricket pitches.On leaving the construction side I worked as a freelance sales person for Rawson Carpets and Club Surfaces along with providing consultancy service to Nottinghamshire County Council furthering their cricket pitch research projects.With Notts Sport provided technical advice, sales assistance, project planning and management along with goods procurement and distribution. At the initial development of the company much of the marketing material and product naming was down to my father and me. After 10 years in which the company went from nothing to one of the biggest players in synthetic surfaces I left and was invited to form Verde Sports Cricket Ltd
