• Developed and established a national LGBT staff support network in the HM Prison Service, this supported staff, created a culture change and a more acceptable environment for LGBT staff and therefore improved performance and reduced sickness related to the sexual orientation. I was recognised by this within the HM Prison Service and received many nominations and awards and received MBE status in 2009 in the New Year’s Honours. • Developed and delivered a number of Equalities Training packages in the HM Prison Service and Prison Officers Union Officials, which enabled attendees to understand the importance of Equality and Diversity, provide informed support to their staff and representatives.• Created Equality and Diversity policies, strategies and action plans and managed the delivery of action plans, which improved staff motivation, supported the culture and enabling the HM Prison Service to exceed the KPIs. • Developed and managed relationships with the Community and Voluntary Sector (CVS), Probation Service, Police, Court Services and other Criminal Justice and Public Sector Organisations, enabling an integrated and joined up approach to service delivery.• Organised successful conferences and meetings within the budget limitations, spoke at and delivered presentations at conferences and events, published articles in a number of national, international, and criminal justice system publications. • From 2000 to 2013, a member of the Prison Officers Association Equalities Committee, advising the POA NEC on equalities issues.

Hm Prison Kirkham

• Managing staff up to 20 within the establishment and ensuring day to day prison routines are carried out.• Creating and delivering against the Equality and Diversity policy and strategy for the establishment.• Developing and delivering training programmes and managing the delivery of other training events.• Organising events to celebrate Black History Month, Disability History Month, LGBT History Month, etc.• Supporting and advising senior managers, managers, staff and prisoners on equalities issues.• Representing the establishment at HM Prison Service events, conferences and regional and national meeting meetings.

Hm Prison Service, Yorkshire & Humberside (Y&H) Regional Office

• Liaising with national VCS (Clinks) and regional VCS organisations working with offenders in the Y&H regions.• Managing VCS establishment coordinators and supporting to introduce VCS organisations into their establishments.• Organising regional VCS forums and focus groups, facilitating meetings and ensuring agreed actions are taken forward.• Working with Prison Establishments in Y&H in monitoring and delivering action plans to improve facilities, visiting environments and experience of prison visitors.

Hm Prison Service Headquarters, London

• Overall management of GALIPS, and producing an annual action plan and financial forecast within allocated budget.• Managing a national committee made up of regional coordinators and admin support to ensure the planned work of GALIPS is carried out.• Organising events and conferences on a regional and national level to promote the network and the Prison Service, together with attending LGBT Pride events around the country.• Supporting managers and staff in both establishments and headquarters in advising on LGBT issues and in writing policy, developing and delivering training programmes.• Coordinating and chairing national network meetings, ensuring that action points are carried out, and attending national meetings as an advisor on LGBT issues.

Hm Prison Risley

• Direct day to day management of a prison wing of 18 staff and 182 prisoners, ensuring the safe running of the regime• Managing the Security Department, collating security intelligence, and taking appropriate action, together with managing the drug testing suite to ensure correct testing procedures are in compliance with legal requirements.• Delivering staff training on Security Awareness, Race Relations, Equal Opportunities, Sexual Discrimination Awareness, Equality & Diversity.• Overall management and responsibility of the prison as Orderly Officer on a rota basis.
