About Peter Eagles

Experience in engineering projects from university 5th year group project and 4th year individual thesis report. My 5th year group project involved designing an offshore wind farm. During the project I had two main responsibilities, group leader responsibilities and aerodynamic design of the wind turbine blades. As group leader my initial responsibilities were establishing communication channels, managing the overall workload and defining group roles and responsibilities, as well as determining what was expected from group members. During the aerodynamic design of the wind turbine blades, I used a MATLAB code along with a database of wind turbine blade profiles, to match profile blade profiles to regions of the blade. When selecting the profiles to use, I focussed on maximising power coefficient while minimising blade mass. The project concluded with an overall ‘A’ grade mark, after submitting the two presentations and 230 page technical report.My 4th year individual thesis involved investigating the aerodynamics of scale automotive rear wings using CFD software. After modelling the scale wings in Solidworks, they were imported into the Ansys Fluent CFD software, where they were analysed for straight line and cornering performance. Postprocessing concluded the thesis, providing a visual representation of the results obtained. Drag, downforce and wing tip vortices were all investigated to determine configurations of track and vehicle which would benefit from the use of each type of wing. As with the 5th year group project, the 4th year individual thesis also concluded with an overall 'A' grade. Heavily involved in radio-controlled car racing at a national level where I apply my engineering skills to optimise vehicle performance.
