Dr. Peter Eley is a Renaissance man who thrives in an environment of curiosity, creativity, and engagement. He is the Interim Dean and full professor at the College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences at Alabama A&M University (AAMU). In this role, he oversees more than 1,700 students and over 200 faculty and staff. The college offers 29 majors and 2 PhD programs in Curriculum and instruction and Social Work. Dr. Eley holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), a Master’s degrees in Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education from North Carolina State University (NCSU), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education.Attuned to the landscape of higher education, Dr. Eley’s research primarily focuses on equity and technology to motivate mathematical understanding and inform strategic decision-making processes.Dr. Eley served at the National Aeronautics Space Association (NASA) as the Liaison for Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) through the NASA Office of STEM (OSTEM) and Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) Marshall Flight, Huntsville, AL & Stennis Space Center Hancock County, MS. Dr. Eley serves as CO-Principal Investigator for the National Science Foundation Award #2314893, titled: "Identifying Systemic Racism in Mathematics Teacher Education: Building a Cross-Site Community with Preservice Teachers of Color". Additionally, Dr. Eley has served in several leadership positions in higher education: coordinator, department chair, accreditation lead, associate dean, and dean. Dr. Eley’s exceptional record has been acknowledged with awards and accolades. As a mentor and leadership speaker, Dr. Eley empowers mathematical leaders of the 21st century nationwide.
