Peter Ferguson, Phd is a Associate Professor at Kindai University at Kindai University. He is proficient in Japanese. Colleagues describe him as "When I first joined the Kawachinagano City Board of Education, located in the very southeastern part of Osaka, Peter Ferguson was the team leader of the seven native English teachers. He was and currently is now in greater magnitude a knowledgeable, creative, and confident educator who serves as a team leader blazing new trails for others to follow in. At the time of his service in Kawachinagano City, he served as a pioneer English teacher helping to setup the English pilot project school of Amano Elementary School along with the Japanese English Coordinator, Ryuta Umemoto, together upstarting one of only three targeted schools nationwide in Japan establishing English as a subject in the school from grades 1 to 6. Thus, he was a key role player in developing curriculum for the new city English program that officially started for grades 3 to 6 beginning in the school year of April 2000, which is when I joined the program. Since English was still new to elementary schools in Japan, Peter and Mr. Umemoto served at Japanese Ministry of Education workshops training Japanese educators equipping and empowering them to teach English in their own classrooms. They were often invited to lead teacher workshops around the country teaching about English, especially aspects of team teaching which was very new at that time in the early years of 2000. Since then, he continues to be invited to lead workshops on other aspects of English education such as phonics and practical English teaching techniques. After leaving Kawachinagano City, he moved on to become Nada Junior High School and High School's very first native English teacher. As a pioneer teacher, he has boldly taken on new challenges and his friendly nature with keen understanding of the Japanese culture, he has easily fit into a complicated Japanese society and infrastructure, enabling himself and the students he teaches to succeed. When Peter was still on the Kawachinagano team, he begun his studies at the Osaka Educational University to get his masters in education. He completed that work and degree, and was invited to join the educators at the university to begin equipping future teachers how to become efficient English teachers. Peter has wide experience teaching children, youth and adults in wide forums encompassing public and private schools in Japan, evening cram school classes at cram schools, and university levels both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In terms of publications, he has assisted in the publication of a book called Seikyo Story, Miwako Otani, Seikyo Publishing, which is a story about how the private Christian school called Seikyo Gakuen was started in Kawachinagano City over 50 years ago. Also, he was invited to be part of the initial team to work on the first edition of the national English curriculum for elementary schools called the Eigo Note, first distributed on a trial basis at pilot project schools around Japan the school year beginning April of 2008."
