Peter Geelen is specialised in developing new cultivation concepts by plant monitoring in greenhouses. To create plant balance his approach starts with the natural power of plants and is based on the laws of physiology and physics. This has changed the way of growing crops in greenhouses. The result is maximum utilisation of the natural light for optimum growth and plant health, combined with a minimum input of fossil energy, water, nutrients and plant protection. In his work Peter Geelen coöperates to develop the fundaments of Next Generation Growing ( Het Nieuwe Telen ). This is an innovation project funded by the Dutch growers ( Glastuinbouw Nederland ) and the government ( Ministry of Agricultural affairs ) to support the development of a sustainable greenhouse horticulture. In 2015 the basic principles of Next Generation Growing are published in a book "De basisprincipes van Het Nieuwe Telen", with Peter Geelen as co-author. In 2018 a wordwide follow up of this cultivation concept is published in the book Plant Empowerment, the basic principles, with a suplement Plant Empowerment, Digital Growing introduced in 2023.In 2022 the three founding fathers of Plant Empowerment start the open and independent platform Plant Empowerment Academy.
