Twenty nine plus years of progressive promotions, serving the public trust. Reporting, training, record keeping, maintenance and response dominate each day in a fire department that responded to 32,659 incidents in 2023. Add to our day all the other and routine administrative tasks, communications and planning which are required to operate at our capacity and a twenty four hour shift goes by pretty fast. I, my team and peers embrace challenge daily in the second busiest fire department in the State of Illinois. The Rockford Fire Department has a current minimum staffing of 59 responders. Crews are strategically located upon four Ladder companies, nine Engine companies and seven ALS transport ambulances at eleven city fire stations. The Rockford Fire Department covers 65sq miles in a community of 148,000 which encompasses navigable waterways, an International airport, major highway and rail transportation pathways, significant high-rise structures and technical to heavy industry. The Rockford Fire Department has a truly All Hazards reality. My specialty is in Hazardous Materials, WMD and toxic industrial response as a local responder, resource and a deployable asset via the MABAS 8 Hazardous Materials response team. The the department has specialty teams in Underwater Dive/Swift Water Rescue, Technical/High Angle Rescue, Hazardous Materials response and three Extrication companies staffed on a daily basis.
