After studying Leisure and Recreation Management in college and participating in an internship at Walt Disney World Resorts, I returned to Madison and began working in retail sales and retail sales management for an outdoor sporting goods store, Rutabaga Paddlesports. After managing sales, operations and events for Rutabaga for 9 years; getting married and starting a family, I left Rutabaga for the automotive industry. Starting in sales with the goal of management, I have now spent the last 17 years with Smart Toyota.At Smart I have managed teams from 5 to 50 people in multiple departments, managed operations from one-touch sales in the Scion sub-brand, to dealer trades, the accessory department, guest services, Express Maintenance, service sales and our body shop/glass division.3 years ago I took over our Human Resources department after a series of outside HR professionals failed to understand our company and industry, and struggled to meet the needs of our team or management. I also absorbed payroll duties for all 260 employees.I am now Director of HR and part of the leadership team at Smart Motors.I have a passion for: helping people, providing excellent customer service, inspiring consistent improvement amongst our teams, engaging in change management regarding new processes or personnel changes, and developing an environment of empathetic teamwork.
