Peter Griffith is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Amgen. He joined Amgen in October 2019 and became Chief Financial Officer in January 2020. Amgen is one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies and also one of the 30 companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company has annual sales of more than $25 billion and its life-changing medicines are available to patients in over 100 countries around the world. In October 2023, Amgen completed the acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics, a leading rare disease company, for nearly $28 billion – the largest acquisition in Amgen’s more than 40-year history.Peter is responsible for a number of different teams at Amgen, including Financial Planning and Analysis, Corporate Audit, Investor Relations, Tax, Accounting, Treasury, and Digital Technology & Innovation. He also serves as the executive sponsor for Amgen’s employee resource group dedicated to supporting colleagues with disabilities, known as Ability Bettered Through Leadership and Education or ABLE.Prior to Amgen, Peter was President of Sherwood Canyon Group, LLC, a private equity firm focused on California’s key industries with the objective of building an investment portfolio focused on sustainable value and long-term growth. Before that, he spent more than 20 years at EY in a number of senior leadership roles, including Global Managing Partner, Operations and Finance; Global Vice Chair, Corporate Development; and Chair, Global Operations Executive Committee. Peter currently serves on the Board of Leaders at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business and on the Advisory Board at the University of Southern California’s Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Marshall School of Business where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the academic honor society for business, and Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor society for accounting.Peter and his wife have been married for over 40 years, having met in the USC cafeteria in 1980. They enjoy spending time with their four children and five grandchildren.
