Short term assignment as lead field scientist for King County Solid Waste Division to bring ground water, surface water, and wastewater monitoring into Federal compliance. County had a history of non-compliance in this monitoring activity. Objective was to regain compliance by conducting sampling that follows rigorously controlled methods to produce highly repeatable analytical laboratory test results while training staff in proper scientific protocols. Samples taken at multiple sites, including active and closed landfills, transfer stations and other remote/isolated areas. Goals for achieving Federal and State monitoring compliance and training of permanent staff were met and exceeded.

Fisheries scientist and project manager with Hart Crowser, Inc. Part of team that evaluated long-term project effects on the nearshore environment (algae, invertebrates, salmonids, and marine mammals/cetaceans) in SE Cook Inlet, Alaska. Key member of the team to write an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Biological Assessment (BA) for a proposed sand and gravel conveyor project in Hood Canal. Wrote numerous BAs for large local projects, as well as for various projects in Alaska. Won three year contract and managed electrofishing project for the City of Bellevue.

The Taylor Associates work force (15 people) continued working in the same capacity as the new Water Resources Division.Senior fisheries scientist and project manager with Taylor Associates, Inc., a division of Cardno TEC, Inc. Managed environmental monitoring and evaluation projects and provided oversight and guidance to project staff regarding the biology of marine and freshwater fishes. Designed and implemented monitoring programs, analyzed data, and wrote final project reports. Lead on all biological permitting/compliance and responsible for ensuring all biological projects met federal, state, and local permitting requirements. Storm response lead and field team member for several stormwater assessment, flow, and precipitation monitoring projects. Duties included storm controlling, installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment, downloading data, and collecting water quality samples.

Astoria, Oregon

Managed the fisheries and water quality aspects of estuary restoration effectiveness monitoring projects in the lower Columbia River. Responsible for project budgeting, planning and design, permit coordination, project implementation, data analysis, and report writing. Projects included Columbia River Estuary Tidal Wetland Monitoring (Grays River, Youngs Bay, and Baker Bay), Big Creek Monitoring and Assessment, and Tide Gate Effectiveness Monitoring.

Wrote and managed numerous regulatory documents under ESA, SEPA and NEPA, addressing salmonids and other listed threatened and endangered species. Project manager for numerous biological and water quality studies. Developed, negotiated, and managed budgets for several contracts. Clientele included; U.S. Navy, Army Corp of Engineers (Seattle District), WSDOT, and WA Department of Ecology.
