The government encouraged homeowners with a pool to have a pool cover installed to avoid evaporation from pools, Homeowners could be fined if they didn’t have a pool cover. We took this opportunity to create a pool cover business. Marketing through Facebook and word of mouth, we would measure a client’s pool, source the materials from a supplier in Johannesburg, then transport the materials to Cape Town install the pool covers cutting them to size for the client’s specific pool shape. We eventually closed this company as the crisis ended and the market became saturated, and we were unable to compete with bulk suppliers and pricing.
