In my role, I achieve a greater level of fire safety for outback communities in the pastoral regions of South Australia including the communities within the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands (APY Lands)This will achieved by:* Develop and maintain relationships with key community stakeholder bodies including nominated APY Lands communities, pastoralists, industries, and other communities.* Develop policy and procedures relating to response within the Pastorals area where mainstream response procedures are ineffective * Provision of expert advice on solutions for complex operational issues relating to bushfire response within the Pastorals area* Develop mitigation strategies (fire prevention) to support and protect communities throughout the Pastorals areas* Engage and liaise with key stakeholder agencies in order to development and ensure implementation of mitigation strategies * Validation (audit) of fire prevention measures performed by the responsible bodies within nominated APY Lands communities and other communities are completed to the required standards.* Maintenance and management of response equipment and infrastructure associated with CFS Brigades throughout the Pastoral areas.* Manage delivery of operational firefighter training for SACFS volunteers located within the Pastoral areas as prescribed by Risk and Capability assessment for Pastoral brigades.* Manage delivery of Community Fire Safe education by accessing existing programs developed by CFS Community Education and by facilitating the production of programs tailored for nominated APY Lands communities

The CFS has an Operational Rank Structure, which is based on the attainment and demonstration of operational competencies, through the application of the Australian Inter-Agency Incident Management System (AIIMS). DCMDR may become involved in coordinating, commanding and controlling the resources of the CFS and other agencies in the management and normalisation of emergency situations.The broad purpose of the RDC includes:•Perform operational functions on behalf of the Regional Commander•Overall responsibility for the management of all RCC activities•Monitoring of systems and procedures for the safety, health and welfare of RCC personnel •Ensure Incident Controllers implement systems and procedures for the safety, health and welfare of all firefighting crews deployed within the Region •Liaise with ESO’s, the ZEST and other government departments•Provide briefings as per organisational requirementsThe specific tasks related to the responsibilities of the RDC include following:•Ensure that rostering and activation of the RCC based on forecast or actual weather, risk or significant incident occurs as per the SOP•Support and monitor the performance of the Regional Duty Officer and monitor their fatigue•Establish the RCC and take control of CFS Regional Preparedness, Response and Recovery•Assess the regional situation, identify risks and take actions to mitigate those risks•Ensure community warnings are being issued•Check that IAPs meet agency and legislative requirements•Provide incident updates to the MLO, SDC and relevant Government Departments•Establish and maintain a suitable RCC management structure•Ensure relief and recovery activities are considered and implemented•Address broader public safety considerations•Facilitate media management•For protracted incidents, plan and implement a changeover process for the RCC and IMT’s•Support the IC to plan the conclusion of emergency activities and demobilisation•Represent at or request a ZEST

CFS Staff Officers may become involved in coordinating, commanding and controlling the resources of the CFS and other agencies in the management and normalisation of emergency situations.The broad purpose of the Regional Duty Officer (RDO) include:• Support Group Duty Officers as required and be available 24/7• Provide an afterhours contact on operational matters on behalf of the Regional Duty Commander • Maintain situation awareness of forecast weather, incidents and risks and determine appropriate roster, staffing levels and RCC preparedness • Respond to significant incidents requiring a higher level of command or control or to ensure the 10 functions of a control agency are being metThe specific tasks related to the responsibilities of the RDC include, but are not limited to, any of the following:• Plan, roster and activate the RCC based on forecast or actual weather, risk or significant incident• Support and monitor the performance of Group Duty Officers • Undertake primary notifications as per the SOP• Maintain situational awareness for the SDC and Media DO and RDC• Advise the Regional Commander of event requiring notification as outlined in the SOP or ROMP• When attending incidents, assist the IC in establishing a forward command or control point, manage the media and ensure WH&S is maintained• Ensure community warnings are being issued• Maintain regional situational awareness on behalf of other regional staff and volunteers• Complete accountable incident reports• Monitor regional social media sites• Provide reports in accordance with SOP’s and WH&S requirements.• Respond to incidents as per the SOP, as requested by the GDO or when no GDO is available • Must answer operational call and messages within 2 minutes of notification
