Package Engineer - LeadSnc-Lavalin Nov 2017 - Aug 2018Newfoundland And Labrador, CanadaThe West White Rose Project is being developed through a fixed drilling platform consisting of a concrete gravity structure (CGS), built by the SNC-Lavalin- Dragados-Pennecon General Partnership (SDP), and an integrated topsides facilities. SDP is constructing the CGS in the Argentia Graving Dock, located on the Argentia Peninsula approximately 130 km from St. John’s, Newfoundland.The CGS, with an overall height of 145 metres, and a base diameter of 122 metres requires 76,000 m3 of concrete and 31,000 tonne of reinforcing. The CGS has a mass of 210,000 tonne and will be floated to its operating position in the Atlantic Ocean 350 kms offshore from Newfoundland.The role of Package Engineer- Lead included - attend design review meetings with the clients Engineering Consultant to assess the constructability of the design and negotiate changes where required- undertake trials on concrete forming and placing- negotiate contract for the supply of 31,000 tonne of reinforcing steel, schedule deliveries from Europe and review quality documentation with respect to supply- arrange and review third party tests associated with the supply of the reinforcing- negotiate contact for the fabrication of all reinforcing for the project.- schedule fabrication and delivery of all reinforcing processing including reinforcing incorporating friction welded couplers- design and supply of all temporary works associated with reinforcement placement -
Engineering ManagerLaing O'Rourke Feb 2012 - Sep 2013Brisbane, AustraliaLaing O’Rourke was awarded a contract in a JV with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) for the design and construction of two LNG tanks, one Butane tank and one Propane tank for the Ichthys Project, located near Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. This project was valued at nearly AUD700 million.Laing O’Rourke was responsible the design of the civil works and all site construction including civil, mechanical, structural and electrical work. KHI was responsible for the design and supply of the mechanical, structural and electrical aspects of the project. Responsibilities as Engineering Manager included the management of consultants undertaking the design of the concrete and groundwork portions with an emphasis on timely and cost effective solutions, and the managing the interfaces between Laing O’Rourke the KHI scope of work. The four tanks (up to 98 m dia x 35 m high) were slip formed and post tensioned with cast in-situ rooves. A major focus of the role was a detailed analysis of constructability of the proposed design to ensure site labour and temporary works were minimized by modularizing components offshore and matching this with the available site craneage. -

The plant was built between 2006 and 2008 and had been partly commissioned when the operation went into administration due to cash flow constraints resulting from lower than expected yields from the processed ore. The role was to manage a full review and redesign of the process followed by an estimate to implement the recommended modifications. Due to a dispute between the JV partners and the estimated cost for the modifications, a directive was issued to Laing O’Rourke to cease further work on 1 October 2010. -

Specific responsibilities were the management of two separate subcontracts, one for the design and construction of a coal stacker and one for the design and construction of a train loadout bin. Project value AUD83 million.Subsequently appointed as Project Manager for the design and construction of a 188,000m3 LNG tank in Darwin. The design for this three year project commenced in January 2003, with the site works commencing in September 2003. The tank is reputed to be the largest above ground LNG tank in the world being 90 metres in diameter and 47 metres high. The total contract value was approximately AUD110 million. The highlight of this project was the air raising of the 1200 tonne roof structure to a height of 33 metres roof structure using 4 fans. Transferred to Brisbane in May 2005 to assist in addressing management shortages in the Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture resulting from the significant increase in the volume of work associated with various Coal Handling and Washery Projects and then appointed as Project Manager for the design and construction of an overland conveying system for Anglo Coal at their Dawson operations in Central Qld. The project value was $100 m and involved the construction of two conveyors 10 and 16.3 kilometres long respectively. -

Contract value USD150 million. This project was located approximately 60 kms to the east of Hanoi. The client was Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. The plant comprised 4 barge unloaders, 2 stackers, 2 bridge reclaimers, one stackers/bucket wheel reclaimer and one rail tippler and 24 separate conveyors to allow for the blending and delivery of coal to the station. The on site construction of the conveyor structures, material and equipment was undertaken by Hyundai Engineering and Construction. • Design, construct and commission conveyor system for Adaro Coal at their Kelanis facility, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.• Project Manage the construction of a synthetic latex plant for Synthomer Sdn Bhd at Kluang, Malaysia. The total capital cost of this project is approximately RM60 million.All projects either met or exceeded the original forecast margins. A highlight of the project in Malaysia was working in excess of 500,000 man hours without an LTI.
