My academic and working life of the last 15+ years has focused on additive manufacturing, from the early days of my PhD investigating alloys for aerospace use in laser powder bed fusion, through to my current role as Lead AM Engineer. Throughout this time, I have worked from the ground up, first starting as an electron/laser beam powder bed fusion research engineer/technician, through to running an additive manufacturing cell and entering research proposals.Within the additive manufacturing sector, I have worked on:• Development and design of actual additive manufacturing machines (specifically the RenAM series of machines).• Familiarity with multiple additive manufacturing methods, both metal and non-metal.• Parameter development for processing of a wide range of alloys, from aluminium through to tungsten.• Novel use of alternative scan strategies to enable thin wall geometries unachievable with conventional parameters.• Design for additive manufacture, making the most of my certified SolidWorks skills.• Use of the finite element analysis package within SolidWorks to improve on and verify engineering designs.• Many areas of engineering, from medical to defence applications.• A variety of destructive and non-destructive techniques, such as mechanical testing and computed tomography.• Project management, ensuring parts are manufactured, qualified, and sent to the customer on time.As a technical specialist and senior engineer, I always must work closely with a multitude of people; from the end user, all the way to the operators running the machines. This has taught me to be easily approachable, honest, and to always be ready to lend a hand when needed.
Listed skills include Six Sigma, Product Development, Rapid Prototyping, Continuous Improvement, and 2 others.
