About Peter Davis
I am fascinated by biological molecule conformational properties, interactions and their ability to fold and form large structures. My work has focussed on the study of polypeptide interactions and protein/peptide stability with a continuous association to drug discovery. I work at Albumedix formulating stable Albumin solutions and measuring improved stability of client molecules with Albumin formulations. Previously I have studied proteinaceous amyloid fibres and associated oligomeric species formed from amyloid beta peptide (involved in Alzheimer’s Disease), alpha-synuclein (Parkinson's Disease) and Cystatin B (involved in a fatal form of epilepsy), as well as developing understanding in antibody self-interaction and the effect of solvent conditions at high concentrations (50-300 mg/ml). I find therapeutic development and discovery of particular interest; Therefore, I have worked at the interface between academic and industrial research for most of my scientific career.Techniques include: liquid chromatography such as; asymmetric-flow field-flow fractionation with multi-angle light scattering (AF4-MALS), size exclusion chromatography MALS (SEC-MALS). Spectroscopy techniques including; circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), polymerisation kinetics followed by fluorescence spectroscopy, quenched and direct Hydrogen/Deuterium exchange by NMR, multi-dimensional protein NMR, limited proteolysis with electrospray-ionisation mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS), as well as imaging with electron microscopy (TEM).

Current- Working in the advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) application group to develop bioprocessing methods, formulation and characterisation of viral vector-based therapies with engineered recombinant human serum.
- Execute internal and customer projects in the field of formulation and characterisation for viral vector based advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), including DOE formulation development, stability studies and.
- Develop and execute scientific work plans (including implementation of new analytical methods), with data reporting and communication within the project team and to clients
- Establish protocols and perform analytical characterisation of viruses, viral vectors and vaccines formulated in albumin using a range of analytical technology, e.g. dynamic light scattering (DLS), particle imaging.
- Work in collaboration with our cell group to establish protocols for cell-based assays to quantify biological activity of viruses and Real-Time PCR (qPCR) assays for quantification of physical virus titers
- Drive innovation and further strengthen our analytical expertise with a focus on virus formulations
