CurrentVEC is the largest public and the second largest overall distribution electric utility in the State of Vermont. VEC is a member-owned cooperative that provides safe, affordable, and reliable energy services to approximately 32,000 members/40,000 meters across 2,900 miles of electrical line and 2,100 square miles. VEC services 75 communities in eight counties (Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, and Orleans). VEC serves some of the most challenging areas in the State of Vermont including eight out of the top ten poorest communities. VEC owns/leases and operates 159 miles of transmission lines and approximately 2,500 miles of distribution overhead and underground lines. VEC owns and operates thirty-two (32) substations and four (4) primary metering points. VEC is interconnected with, and served by five VELCO connections, 13 GMP connections, two Eversource (PSNH) connections, three Hydro-Quebec connections, and one connection to Swanton Village Electric.On average, VEC serves approximately 1,000 consumers per substation or meter point and averages 15.3 consumers per mile of distribution line.
