I worked as an Acrylate and Encapsulation scientist on an extensive number of projects working with colleagues in different departments and research centres. The polymerisation techniques I used during the acrylate projects included solution, suspension and precipitation polymerisations. I lead the development of methodologies to produce more statistical copolymers when incorporating less reactive monomers. I brought my expertise from my doctorate work to synthesise and characterise graft copolymers. The polymers produced were targetted for a wide range of applications such as binders in batteries, personal products and excipients in drug delivery.The encapsulation work included preparing capsules using complex coacervation for technical service requests for new internal phases. Also, I was the lead investigator for a project for encapsulating water-senstive material. In which, I regularly presented developments to a collaborating company. Furthermore, I was spearheading research into more environmentally friendly capsules due to incoming legislation on microbeads.I also worked closely with the analytical chemists in developing new, more sophisticated, characterisation methodologies to better understand the new materials we were producing.
