• Designed a comprehensive plan to address the SMB (Small and Medium Business) market and dramatically improve the consumability of DB2 Express.
• This includes improvements to the packaging, marketing, sales and vendor support, web presence as well as improvements in the usability and autonomics in DB2 itself.

• Managed DB2 project that delivered two world record setting DB2 TPC-C benchmarks in one year. Benchmark results improved by 800% during the project.
• Worked in close cooperation with the Austin AIX development and benchmark team to coordinate the project management across multiple sites and time zones.
• Managed the project schedules, executive stakeholder expectations, and tracked and managed hundreds of large and small design and product improvements.

• Organized and facilitated the Data Management Division “Brand Board”, which oversees a 3 billion dollar a year business. This includes both operational reviews and managing the Integrated Product Development (IPD).
• Developed a new “Portfolio Database System” to track and manage over 140 products.
• Successfully guided Data Management through a corporate audit of IPD.

• Built, and lead a new team for the development of the next version of the DB2 UDB Administration tools.
• Lead the interface re-design and development of the tools to improve the usability of the DB2 UDB “Shared Nothing” parallel architecture.
• Effectively managed the cross-site development work between the Toronto and Silicon Valley Laboratory improving communications and overall climate.
• Supported key sales and marketing opportunities through extensive customer briefings, trade presentations, and ongoing customer care.

• Lead the development of over eight new Wizards that made significant contributions to both the usability and up-and-running ease of use of DB2 UDB.
• Managed the relationship with a key Beta customer. Their feedback added hundreds of usability improvements into Version 5.1 of DB2 UDB and helped to close a half million-dollar sale.
• Received the IBM Star Team Award as part of the group that made “Major strides in user friendliness” (VARBusiness) to DB2 UDB.

• Developed IBM’s guidelines and base classes (using C and C++) for the development of “guided user interfaces” i.e. Wizards.
• Developed six new Wizards for the UltraLite product, a proposed alternative to Microsoft Access or Lotus Approach. The project was cancelled at Beta shipment due the acquisition of Lotus Development Corporation.

• Developed online interactive tutorials to guide new users through the functions and features of IBM’s Cooperative Development Environment (CODE) tool for the AS/400.

• Wrote the SQL/DS (now DB2) for VM and VSE Performance Tuning manual.
• Wrote the SQL/DS VM Data Spaces Support Administration manual.
• Rewrote the Installation and Administration manuals for SQL/DS for VM and VSE.
• Negotiated key development agreements between the Information and Code development groups.
