At age 14, I was a sportswriter for my local newspaper and sports editor of my high school newspaper. I was hooked.Since then, I've reported on everything from minor league baseball to college basketball to high school athletics. I've written every type of sports article: the feature, the profile, the game story, the season preview/review, longform, short form, etc. Legendary sports journalists have encouraged and advised me along the way. Top publications, such as The New York Times, have referenced my work.Above all, I'm a storyteller. My best angles and interviews have stemmed from my natural curiosity and ability to immerse myself in a story. It's no secret that journalism is suffering. In my opinion, it's not because of new technology, economics, or even a pandemic. It's because the industry has ignored the most important person: the reader/listener/viewer. Sports journalism, in particular, has become centered around statistics and sensationalism. The emotional connection with the fan has been lost, and much of the raw, human side of sports that fans crave has been neglected. As someone who has played and coached sports, I know what it's like to be on the mound in the ninth inning or make a half-court shot at the buzzer. This background has helped me connect with interviewees and develop a lively, in-depth style of sports journalism that readers have enjoyed and responded to.My knowledge and writing ability extend beyond the field/court. As an award-winning history major, I was published twice in nationally recognized academic journals.
