Principal Software Engineer

Hopkinton, Ma

Worked in a small team performing research and developing the guest OS infrastructure for the VMAX and Powermax family of storage systems. Researched and tested various algorithms using NVIDIA GPUs, embedded within a storage system, which may eventually be used in offload engines to save CPU cycles. Created a Java-based GUI that can run a suite of performance tests remotely on a Linux system from a Windows system. The results of the tests are sent back to the controlling GUI where they can be automatically graphed and compared to prior results. The GUI was eventually modified to also allow testing of various GPU algorithms on remote Linux servers. Created new performance tests for validating the performance of the GuestOS and vVMAX. Made many modifications to another performance test written in bash and python by a coworker. Produced an itemized list of proposed changes for making the coworker’s test more flexible and usable by other groups. Created a prototype messaging service to be used between SymmWin and VMAX microcode. Based upon Apache MQ and the STOMP protocol this service can be used for sending log files, blobs, commands, status updates and logs messages. Created a prototype system that negated the need for “gatekeepers” in Solutions Enabler through the use of Ethernet socket connection to a listener thread in the IM of the VMAX microcode.Managed a small team in the US and was technical lead (remote management) to 4 engineers in Bangalore, India (2 QA and 2 sustaining) working on a Symmetrix Emulator. Hired and trained the remote team. Created a User’s Guide, Developer’s Guide, and PowerPoint presentations. Gave presentations and training internally and externally. Gave presentations to internal customers in India, Japan, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Built in a save an restore mode that allowed the saving of interpreter state and data structures as a ‘binary’ and a very fast reload.• Designed and developed software in C that drove a robotic chip tester. My algorithms allowed for movement in the x, y, z and theta directions.
