While working at Free Fall Interactive, I developed and completed a tutorial course that teaches how to code in C# and use Unity to make a game using 2D assets that were created by Ross Castle-May. I designed the content of my course, created a small ‘hack-n-slash’ game, wrote the voice over scripts and was also heavily involved in the video editing. My course along with two other courses created at Free Fall, were part of a project commissioned by IT Online Learning that is titled ‘Games Dev 101’.

During my time at Intel, I was responsible for creating scripts to automate processes and handle large amounts of data for ongoing chip implementation projects. Training was provided in both Perl and TCL so I became proficient at using them in order to achieve a wide range of programming objectives. I also used Visual Basic and C# to tackle issues throughout the year as well. During this time I was using UNIX in order to work on the projects becoming very comfortable working in that environment. I worked within a small team and kept them up to date on a daily basis with notes and progress so became accustomed to communicating about technical situations in a concise manner. In addition to working on my main programming objectives I also created custom scripts to perform tasks for specific members of the team and some other, more fun, software for the team, such as a Secret Santa email script.

During the summer working for Backstage Library Works at the Templeman Library in the University of Kent. My role was scanning books and assigning the information to an RFID tag then fixing it to the book. I was also involved with shifting, reclassifying books and shelving. It was necessary to maintain concentration over many hours, be attentive to minor details and be confident in solving discrepancies. The role focused heavily on time management, it also required a strict daily target to be met. As the entire project had a deadline it was very important to work as part of a team to make sure that all the targets were met.

Whilst working at APFS, I gained a greater understanding of the importance of communication, being punctual and working within a team dynamic. I now have experience of working very long hours, maintaining concentration, high standards and reaching challenging deadlines. During the time I spent working on the project I was responsible for maintaining the scanners when there were errors and editing images.

During my time in this position I feel that I learnt many things; how to comfortably explain the nature of our products to customers as well as developing a rapport with them. In addition, I worked as part of a strong sales team, pulled stock and organised the warehouse, was taught health and safety as well as the principles of date-coding and rotating perishable stock.
