In 1987 I took a break from journalism and began working as a writer, story editor and producer on multiple prime time network television series including CRIME STORY, MIAMI VICE and WISEGUY, for which I was the Season 4 Show Runner. I co-created MISSING PERSONS, a scripted dramatic series that ran on ABC during the 1993-94 season and later wrote multiple television films for all 3 networks produced between 1995 and 2000. Returning to reporting full-time after 9/11, I began investigating the FBI's record in counter-terrorism and and organized crime in the years leading up to the attacks and beyond, resulting in four books published by HarperCollins between 2003-2013. (Details below) In 2015 I created a small New York based publishing imprint, Tenacity Media Books, which published the true crime classic MURDER, INC. and, most recently, my latest non-fiction book, HOMICIDE AT ROUGH POINT, which grew out of a July, 2020 investigative piece I wrote for Vanity Fair.
