Legal counsellor

I entered the service of the judicial system as a law clerk to Judge in the criminal division. In this position I have come to fully understand the trial process, and the problems that can occur therein, both with the final judgments and with procedures. I put my energy and expertise to use in assisting Judges with investigations and the drafting of rulings, with the aim of giving Judges—who still needed to process cases in an expeditious manner—a more complete understanding of all the issues and facts involved as well as relevant interpretations and applications of the law by higher courts. I also provided legal opinions and brief of facts in a timely fashion. In cases where there were several interpretations possible, I not only provided differing opinions from domestic courts but also actively researched the results of similar common-law cases from foreign courts so that Judges could consider the case from all possible view of points.

I had been hoping for the chance to apply the knowledge gained in law school to real world matters for a long time, so upon entering the job market after my military service, I found work at a law firm and gained an inside perspective on the duties and responsibilities of being a lawyer.

After law school, I started my mandatory military service. Life in the military is very closed off and a lot different than life in the outside world, leading to a lot of uncertainty for many about what is or is not appropriate. Moreover, penalties under military law are much more severe. Any little deviation from the rules can have long-lasting repercussions. So when the military was looking for someone with legal expertise, I immediately applied for the position and used my expertise to warn others not to slip up with the law, lest there be undesirable consequences.
