Art Biography Peter LievensI have been painting for years. Highly nuanced, and by using rough brushstrokes, I explore my human flaws. Stumblingly, and by trial and error, I seek myself over and over again in the language of my paintings. In the contours of acrylic and on a grand scale, I reveal my and your hurts, things just on the edge of reality … In an expressionist, somewhat monumental, and mostly figurative style, I want to evoke and eventually amplify that what has been hidden … That what is not known or what one does not want to know will overwhelm through coloration.I sometimes base my work on photographs but there always has to be a story. Imagination and association are very important to me. Via associations I try to breach my own image, to find my own voice.Sometimes I paint using solely my imagination. My ballpoint drawings for example were made that way. The paintings I am working on at the moment, are inspired by the daughter of my sister who died young, which also exemplifies the previous idea of making story-based creations.Moreover, I occasionally paint on request as is exemplified by the painting of Louis Paul Boon that I was asked to make by JCI Aalst.
