Here my position requires me to use all industry standard software Quark, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator on both Mac and PC, also Acrobat (incorporating Pitstop), Screen Flatworker & Pageoptimize. The majority of the work here is client supplied that requires preparing for repro, checking images (resolution, colour mode, etc) also checking colours are set up correctly, many clients use corporate Pantone colours as specials, therefore trap settings need to be correct. Several client’s also supply high resolution pdf’s that require re-colouring using Pitstop, before planning and imposition stages. I am also responsible for any artworking and typesetting that is done within the company, both commercial and financial including the creation of graphs using illustrator. Output devices here include two Screen PlateRite platesetters both controlled via a Screen Trueflow Rip and proofing is via two Epson B1 printers. Part of my duties here also require me to run both a Ricoh C751 digital press and a Heildelberg Linoprint (rebadged Ricoh) both using a Fiery Rip. In November 1999 I rejoined FE Burman, a company I had previously worked for, at their invitation. Here I was employed as a Repro Planner / Typesetter within the Mac department. The work here varies from setting single and full colour adverts (display and classified), to the plannning of pages and make-up of client supplied files for repro, replacing low res scans with high res, creating cut-outs and shadows along with any other Photoshop work required.

I was also required to carry out any basic retouching and image manipulation that may have been required, using Photoshop. Other duties included the daily checking of screen ranges and the re-calibration of both Linotype Hercules and Purup Mercur imagesetters. Software most frequently used in this position included Quark, Photoshop, Freehand and Illustrator.
