As Taxation Director and Partner of a mid tier firm based in Sydney from 2005 to 2019, my particular focus was tax and GST, my specialist areas. I apply my core skills to enable tax considerations to be given due focus while endeavouring to also ensure clients never allow the tax tail to wag the commercial dog. While it is my primary focus, I recognise tax is simply one aspect of any business and investment transaction. I have experience of the differing tax regimes of various countries. This has assisted me greatly in dealing with the ever-increasing volume of cross-border transactions involving clients, in Australia and other jurisdictions. Whether it be advising foreign nationals and companies establishing businesses in Australia, advising incoming and outgoing expatriates, or addressing other cross-border issues, I enjoy working with fellow advisors overseas to ensure optimum results across the relevant jurisdictions.A graduate of Glasgow University in 1986, I spent six years in Arthur Andersen’s Glasgow office where I focussed on tax compliance and consulting. I attained my Chartered Accountant in Scotland (ICAS) qualification in 1989 before moving to London to gain wider accounting experience with Haines Watts where I expanded my role as a specialist tax consultant. I moved to Australia in Sydney in late 1999 and completed the Australian Chartered Accountant qualification in 2002. A member of the Tax Institute since 2004, I am also a Chartered Tax Adviser.
