Mr. Mahoney is a licensed certified public accountant and has more than 30 years of experience serving real estate, private equity and venture capital clients. Mr. Mahoney currently serves as the Global, America's and East Region Real Estate Tax Market Segment Leader where he is responsible for developing and executing on global practice wide growth, quality and branding strategies. Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Mahoney was in the New York / New England practice of EY and, while in that role, served as the global tax account leader for numerous large clients.During his tenure with EY, Mr. Mahoney has practiced as a member of the Firm's National Tax Department located in Washington D.C., and its local office practices (Boston, New York, Los Angeles) where he focused exclusively on real estate, and partnership / joint venture tax matters. He has extensive experience in advising clients with respect to real estate, partnership and corporate joint venture tax matters, including structuring acquisitions, Section 1031 exchanges, partnership reorganizations, allocations and dispositions. Mr. Mahoney has written extensively on such matters, authoring and/or contributing to articles which have appeared in the Journal of Taxation, Taxation of Business Entities, Taxes - The Magazine, BNA Monthly Tax Management Memorandum, the Journal of Real Estate Taxation and the Practicing Law Institute series on joint venture taxation. Mr. Mahoney has served as a contributing editor for the Journal of Real Estate Taxation and previously was two-term member of the AICPA’s partnership tax resource panel. Mr. Mahoney was an adjunct professor at George Mason in it's Graduate Tax Program and also at Northeastern University where he taught Introduction to Federal Taxation of Partners & Partnerships as well as Advanced Partnership Taxation.
