Peter left bp end 2021. where he was Group Regional President for Europe and Head of bp UK (continuing as non-exec Chair of bp Europe until end 2022), Since then he has taken on a diverse portfolio which includes Chair of the Great Run Company, Chair of the Advisory Board of Two Magnolias venture capital fund, Interim Lead Non-Executive Director (and NED) at DESNZ (Department of Energy Security and Net Zero), Chair at the Net Zero Technology Centre, and some other mentoring/advisory roles.Peter has deep commercial experience as a leader in many aspects of the energy industry. He is particularly experienced in UK/Europe, speaking a number of European languages, where, as European Regional President and Head of bp UK, he led bp’s integrated business development, corporate governance and external/government relationships in this geography. His latter years at bp were very focused on the paramount importance of the energy transition.Peter worked in Trading, Upstream, Downstream and the Corporate Centre of bp in London, New York, Paris and Brussels. Earlier roles included oil trading, refining and shipping; senior strategic planning in the Global Gas group; and the establishment/implementation of the bp/Mobil JV, leading the European Supply and Distribution activity with accountability for bp’s refining activities in Rotterdam. Peter ran the supply, trading and marketing business for bp’s North Europe Gas Business, was Managing Director of the UK Gas and Power activities and sat on the Board of the UK Interconnector pipeline and the Great Yarmouth power station. Peter also chaired bp Oil UK, Lubricants UK, and bp Exploration Operating Company. He sat on the Board of bp in France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and various other internal boards. Since 2008 he was a Director of bp Pension Trustees Limited, and chaired the European Works Council.Peter sat on a number of external bodies, including HMG’s Councils for CCUS, Hydrogen and JetZero; the Board of Fuels Europe, IOGP Europe, ICC UK; the CBI President's Committee; Business In The Community’s Climate Action leadership team; the Honorary Board of the Royal Opera House and the British Museum Chairman’s Advisory Group. Peter has an MA from Oxford and an MBA from INSEAD and is an honorary Fellow of King’s College, London. He is married with three children, and his interests cover the arts and most sports. He is an active volunteer at Therapy Dog Nationwide. He speaks fluent French and German, and conversational Spanish.
